What is Play Therapy?
Play is a child's language and toys are their words (Landreth, 2002).
Play thearpy allows children the opportunity to explore and express themeselves in their natural language, play. Play therapists are trained to faciliate children's play in a theraputic manner and the relationship between therapist and child may serve as a reparitive relationhip.
What to expect?
I will meet with the child's parents/guardians prior to meeting with the child. During the meeting I will find out a lot about your family, hear your concerns, and familiarize you with play therapy.
Although the child is my client I will provide feedback during periodic parent consulations.
I will give you some suggestions about how to prepeare your child for our session. The Center for Play Therapy has developed an exellent video about play thearpy for caregivers and children. I suggest you view the video and consider sharing it with your child.
